On Thursday, reported on a press conference featuring President Trump and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, following their historic discussions.
During his address, President Trump revealed that his administration is “attempting” to regain control of the former U.S. Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan from the Taliban.
On Saturday, Trump reiterated his commitment to reclaiming Bagram, warning ominously, “If Afghanistan doesn’t return Bagram Airbase to those who built it, the United States of America, BAD THINGS ARE GOING TO HAPPEN!!! President DJT”
In his Thursday remarks, Trump also lambasted Biden’s chaotic and disastrous exit from Afghanistan.
In 2021, Joe Biden executed a hasty withdrawal from Afghanistan, leaving Bagram Airfield behind after nearly two decades. This exit was characterized by a disconcerting lack of communication, as the electricity was turned off and the Americans slipped away in the dead of night—leaving the Afghan commander unaware of their departure until more than two hours later.
The Taliban swiftly seized control of Bagram, located just 30 miles north of Kabul, on August 15, 2021, subsequently releasing thousands of imprisoned terrorists. Just days later, a terrorist attack at Kabul Airport claimed the lives of 173 Afghans and 13 Americans.
Moreover, Biden left behind billions of dollars’ worth of U.S. military equipment and resources, now at the Taliban’s disposal.
In May, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced an extensive investigation into the implications of Biden’s withdrawal.
Trump remarked to reporters on Thursday, “They just navigated through the Afghanistan total disaster, for no reason whatsoever. We’re going to leave Afghanistan, but we will do so with strength and dignity. We’re going to keep Bagram, one of the largest airbases in the world.”
“We handed it over for nothing. By the way, we’re trying to get it back. That could be a little breaking news.”
“We want that base back because they need things from us. But one of the key reasons for wanting the base is, as you know, it’s an hour away from where China develops its nuclear weapons.”
