The Ink Factory, a London and LA-based studio, has joined forces with Korean production company VO Media to develop a series adaptation of John le Carré’s renowned espionage thriller “A Most Wanted Man.” The adaptation will be set in Korea and will be penned by Kim Yun-shin, with Kim Shin-ho from VO Media serving as the producer. Park Bo-kyeong from VO Media will also be involved in the development process along with Junyoung Jang from The Ink Factory.

The novel, originally published in 2008, follows the story of an illegal Muslim immigrant who arrives in Hamburg from Russia and finds himself entangled in the intelligence web of multiple countries in the aftermath of 9/11. The narrative delves into themes of paranoia and moral ambiguity in the context of the war on terror.

Producer Kim Shin-ho and writer Kim Yun-shin expressed their interest in exploring the sacrifice of individuals in the name of the nation, a central theme in le Carré’s work. They aim to reinterpret the story within the backdrop of modern Korean history, which has been shaped by war, division, dictatorship, and sacrifices made for security.

Simon Cornwell and Stephen Cornwell, co-CEOs of The Ink Factory, highlighted the relevance of trust, power, and morality in “A Most Wanted Man,” emphasizing the importance of bringing a Korean perspective to the adaptation. The partnership with VO Media marks The Ink Factory’s expansion into Asian markets and their commitment to reimagining le Carré’s intricate world of espionage through a fresh cultural lens.

Park Bo-kyeong from VO Media expressed excitement about adapting one of le Carré’s most politically astute works and learning from The Ink Factory’s extensive experience in global storytelling. VO Media, known for projects like “Why Her” and “The King 2 Hearts,” is set to bring their expertise to this collaboration.
