John Oliver did not hold back when addressing the abrupt suspension of Jimmy Kimmel‘s nightly show on “Last Week Tonight.” He labeled ABC and their CEO Bob Iger as “cowards,” highlighting the fears within corporate walls.
In a fiery segment, Oliver criticized Iger while commenting on how he foresees the legacy of the current administration as tarnished in historical narratives, notably warning that companies allowing Donald Trump and his ilk to dominate will one day regrettably re-evaluate their choices.
Oliver asserted that ABC and Iger “certainly know better but still allow these events to unfold,” likening Kimmel’s suspension to permitting a bully to pilfer your lunch, with the implicit understanding that the more you give in, the more they will demand.

As many are already aware, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” was placed on an indefinite hiatus following Kimmel’s remarks regarding Charlie Kirk‘s murder, which drew a stern warning from FCC Chairman Brendan Carr that ABC had to “take action on Kimmel” to avoid governmental intervention.
Oliver is not alone in his criticism; fellow late-night hosts like Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Jon Stewart, and Stephen Colbert have also voiced their support for Kimmel during this challenging time.
TMZ also managed a chat with Jay Leno, who affirmed his solidarity with Kimmel and speculated that Kimmel would return to the airwaves “somewhere” down the line.
Kimmel has largely remained silent about his suspension, although sightings of him smiling while out in L.A. the day moving trucks were spotted outside his Hollywood studio have raised eyebrows.
He is expected to broadcast live from New York City in the coming week, and thus far, there has been no public cancellation of the scheduled filming slots.
