A shirt discovered near the suspected remains of Travis Decker has been confirmed to belong to the Army veteran accused of murdering his three young daughters. This revelation came on Friday when law enforcement officials disclosed additional unsettling findings at the scene.

Utilizing advanced AI-driven drones, both state and federal law enforcement teams located an “anomaly” close to the Icicle River drainage on Thursday, which is situated less than a mile from where Decker’s daughters’ bodies were found in June. The clothing identified aligns with the garments worn by the primary suspect during his last public sighting.

“I can confirm that the shirt we discovered at the scene matches what Travis was reported to be wearing,” stated Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison in a Friday news conference.

“Additionally, we discovered more body parts, including two feet, several femurs, and vertebrae,” he continued, sharing grim updates on the investigation.

Among the other items found were Army Ranger shorts, a bracelet that belonged to Decker, and his preferred brand of chewing tobacco, according to Sheriff Morrison.

“The decomposition processing has posed challenges for the State Patrol’s Crime Lab; however, they managed to extract DNA from the samples,” he reported, noting that they are currently comparing this DNA to blood samples from Decker.

While there has not yet been DNA confirmation that the remains belong to Decker, officials remain hopeful that they have found the key suspect in the murder investigation.

“We are optimistic about these results and believe we are one step closer to locating Mr. Decker,” the sheriff remarked.

The results of the genetic tests are forthcoming from the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab.

When questioned about the lengthy search that lasted over three months to locate the body, which was so near to the Rock Island Campground where the little Decker girls were discovered, officials explained the complexities of the terrain.

“The topography is extraordinarily challenging, with some areas difficult to find elsewhere in the country. This is what we encountered,” said Chief Deputy US Marshal Gavin Duffy at the press briefing, adding, “It’s very steep and incredibly rocky.”

Travis Decker is believed to have committed the murders of his daughters, aged 9, 8, and 5, on June 2. The girls were found with plastic bags over their heads near their father’s vehicle.

The homeless veteran took the girls from their mother Whitney’s home, where she reported that Decker seemed “quieter than usual” during his visit on that tragic day, according to an affidavit cited by KOIN.

Legal representatives for the grieving mother have previously stated that Decker’s mental health had severely deteriorated after leaving active service with the elite US Army Rangers.

The manhunt for Decker has become the largest in the county’s history, according to Sheriff Morrison, who condemned the slaying of the three young girls as the county’s “most heinous” crime.
