OpenAI is making significant strides with its affordable ChatGPT subscription by launching it in new markets. Initially introduced in India, the sub-$5 ChatGPT Go plan is now available in Indonesia at an attractive price of Rp75,000 ($4.50) per month.
The ChatGPT Go plan is designed as a mid-tier subscription that provides more functionality than the basic free version while being more economical than the premium $20-per-month ChatGPT Plus plan. Subscribers to this initiative enjoy a tenfold increase in usage limits compared to the free version, which includes capabilities for sending prompts, generating images, and uploading various file formats. Additionally, the plan enhances ChatGPT’s ability to recall past interactions, fostering a more customized user experience, as noted by ChatGPT’s head, Nick Turley, on X.
According to Turley, the recent rollout in India has led to a remarkable increase, with the number of paid subscribers more than doubling since the launch of the ChatGPT Go plan.
This latest move establishes OpenAI as a key competitor to Google, which recently introduced a comparable AI Plus subscription plan in Indonesia. Google’s offering provides access to its advanced Gemini 2.5 Pro chatbot, along with creative tools for image and video production, including Flow, Whisk, and Veo 3 Fast. Additionally, it features enhanced functionalities for Google’s AI research assistant NotebookLM and integrates AI capabilities with Gmail, Docs, and Sheets, complete with 200GB of cloud storage.
