Scene outside Jewel-Osco

A significant incident occurred on Tuesday night outside a Jewel-Osco store located in the South Loop, as a 17-year-old girl sustained a gunshot wound during a confrontation.

The Chicago Police Department (CPD) responded to the emergency call at approximately 10:30 p.m. At the scene, they discovered the injured teenager with a gunshot wound to her right thigh. Thankfully, officers promptly applied a tourniquet before paramedics transported her to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she is currently reported to be in stable condition.

According to CPD’s carefully crafted statement, the incident unfolded following a physical altercation, during which “a weapon was produced and the firearm discharged” involving the girl and an “unknown offender.”

Witnesses have claimed that the individual who fired the weapon was a female security guard employed by the grocery store. Law enforcement quickly detained a woman believed to be that guard near the 8100 block of South Saginaw Avenue less than an hour after the shooting.

Ongoing investigations are focusing on reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing multiple witnesses to gather more insights into the details surrounding the incident.
