Senate Republicans appear to be growing increasingly frustrated with Trump’s fixation on the SAVE America Act. Tensions have escalated as Trump insists on canceling the August recess until his bill, which many view as an attempt to manipulate election outcomes, is passed.

John Bresnahan from Punchbowl News shared on X:

NEWS: GOP senators are strongly opposing OMB Director Russ Vought and White House aides over the inclusion of the SAVE Act in reconciliation. This could lead to potential votes on Social Security and other issues. Thune spearheaded the opposition, but other GOP members also voiced concerns.

Much of the debate focused on using federal records for the SAVE Act, including Social Security documents, which would lead to reconciliation instructions for at least a dozen committees, opening up the possibility for Democratic amendments.

Contrary to Trump’s beliefs, the Senate cannot simply pass the election-related bill through reconciliation.

The process of using reconciliation for the SAVE Act would create chaos, as it would allow Democrats to bog down the Senate with endless amendments and procedural votes for the remainder of the year.

Any Republican attempt to push this legislation through reconciliation would likely result in Democrats taking control of the process, effectively stalling the Senate. The bill would not reach a final vote before the current Congress concludes.

Republicans have also voiced their dissatisfaction with Trump’s preoccupation with what they see as a futile legislative effort.
