Miranda Cosgrove has taken a clever step toward settling scores with an ex-boyfriend by sharing the screen with Pierson Fodé in the new film The Wrong Paris.
“[Pierson is] so adorable it’s almost unreasonable,” revealed Cosgrove, 32, during a sneak peek of the upcoming September 24 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. “I was in the midst of a breakup before filming, and he’s genuinely a nice guy. We’ve grown close, but I had fun posting him on my Instagram Stories, making it seem like we were ‘dating’—even though I never outright said it. I could tell that really ruffled my ex’s feathers.”
Barrymore, 50, lauded Cosgrove’s playful ploy, branding it “cute and fun, and a clever way to deal with the situation.” The discussion prompted her to cheekily request some “tips on revenge,” to which Cosgrove eagerly responded, “Absolutely, you can borrow Pierson anytime!”
In The Wrong Paris, which was released on Netflix earlier this month, Cosgrove portrays Dawn, a small-town girl who mistakenly believes she’s signed up for a dating show set in Paris, France, only to discover it’s actually taking place in Paris, Texas. Intent on accidentally getting herself eliminated from the competition, her plans spiral when she realizes the charming bachelor (Fodé) is someone she previously connected with on the dance floor.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Cosgrove expressed confidence that Fodé was perfect for his role right from the start. “It was obvious,” she stated. “Typically, I’m the one auditioning, but the instant we met, it made so much sense. You can’t help but wonder how they gauge someone’s fit for a role, but it was crystal clear. We connected immediately.”
Fodé reciprocated the praise, describing Cosgrove as “amazing” and “a breeze” to collaborate with. “She was stellar throughout the movie,” he commented.
As for the off-screen chemistry, Cosgrove shared that she and Fodé had the opportunity to bond prior to filming. “We definitely had great chemistry from the outset, but those first couple of weeks in Canada, where we got to ride horses together, really strengthened that connection,” she noted. “I joked that learning to lasso him really helped—it’s a unique way to get to know someone!”
Cosgrove did not mention her ex directly during her conversation with Barrymore, but she has previously kept details of her love life largely private. She has been linked to names like Noah Centineo, James Maslow, and Nat Wolff, with her most recent rumored romantic involvement being with tennis pro Taylor Fritz.
In a podcast appearance with Whitney Cummings back in August 2020, Cosgrove shared insights about a previous relationship characterized by odd dynamics; the unnamed ex was “previously married,” had a child, and would often shush her during their time together. (In a humorous twist, Fritz, 27, famously tried to silence hecklers at the 2023 French Open.)
When asked about her mystery boyfriend’s profession during the podcast, Cosgrove coyly replied, “He’s a tennis player.”
Meanwhile, Fodé has his own romantic history, having dated Victoria Justice from 2013 to 2015, and was rumored to be involved with Sharna Burgess in 2017. His current relationship status with Saxon Sharbino remains uncertain.
