From the very first episode of The Traitors, I found myself captivated by the dynamics of the competition. As the weeks have progressed, one particular theme has emerged: smart players often find themselves in the crosshairs of both the murderers and the Faithful during banishment rounds. This trend leads me to predict that one contestant, in particular, may face an early exit in The Celebrity Traitors, which premieres soon.
Why Stephen Fry Might Not Last Long in The Celebrity Traitors
Stephen Fry is widely recognized for his sharp intellect and articulate commentary. As the original host of the popular trivia show QI, Fry’s involvement in intellectual debates and discussions around complex issues has solidified his reputation as a cerebral icon. In fact, he was voted the Most Intelligent Man on Television by Radio Times readers back in 2006.
This high-profile reputation could make him a prime target in the game. His keen observational skills enable him to pick up on subtle behaviors that other contestants might overlook, allowing him to potentially unravel the narrative and identify the Traitors. If I were in the shoes of a Traitor, I would see Fry as a significant threat and would want to eliminate him early in the competition.
Furthermore, the Faithful might grow suspicious of him due to his eloquence and logic in discussions at the roundtable. Previous seasons have shown us that intelligent players often become targets for their capability to sway opinions and articulate rational arguments.
The Traitors Does Not Favor Smart Contestants (Mostly)
Reflecting on earlier seasons, contestant Yin was expelled after revealing her academic background and analyzing the game’s mechanics through her lens of sociology. Had she downplayed her intelligence, she might have endured longer.
Similarly, a contestant named Kas, who was a doctor, faced backlash from his peers who perceived him as overly clever. Despite his friendly demeanor, he was targeted due to the threat he posed, leading to his eventual dismissal, much to the public’s dismay.
Maintaining a low profile regarding intelligence is often key in this game. Unfortunately for Stephen Fry, he cannot hide the brilliance that has enchanted A-listers like Nicole Kidman, who have openly expressed admiration for his intellect:
Viewed through the lens of previous contestants, it seems that ignorance and a mob mentality can work towards survival in The Traitors. Contestants like Mollie in season two were kept around because they were seen as non-threatening, while others, like Leanne and Meryl, remarkably made it to the end by sheer luck and a numbers game.
What are the Chances of Stephen Fry Being a Traitor?
Now, I may have overlooked a crucial point if Claudia chooses Stephen Fry as a Traitor. Historically, the show has favored contestants who can blend into the background, and Fry’s prominence may inadvertently lead to his downfall, regardless of his role within the Traitors.
Moreover, past winners have effectively downplayed their intelligence to navigate through the competition. Season two’s Harry is a prime example—his apparent naivety masked his strategic maneuvers, allowing him to thrive unnoticed.
It would be a surprising move for Claudia to select Fry for the role as he is a rather conspicuous choice. Personally, I envision a more unlikely candidate like Alan Carr stepping into this role with charm. However, eliminating Stephen Fry early in the game—especially given his notoriety—would align with the show’s trend of surprising exits that shake things up.
If Fry remains in the game beyond the third episode, I will be astounded. Now, we can only hope that the coming weeks pass quickly so we can discover his fate.
The Celebrity Traitors premieres on Wednesday, 8 October 2025, at 9 PM with a 70-minute episode, followed by new episodes every Wednesday and Thursday. Catch it on BBC One or stream on BBC iPlayer.
