According to his mother, Vilene Griffith, Sanjay is considered “brain dead” after the harrowing incident that took place on a Monday morning while he was on his way to school. “Miracles do happen, and I’m trusting God for Sanjay to get up,” she expressed, hoping for a turn in her son’s fate. Sanjay recently graduated from middle school and had aspirations of becoming a firefighter, a dream that now hangs in the balance.

“Nothing is going on. He’s not breathing on his own. He’s not doing nothing,” Griffith lamented in an emotional interview.

Witness accounts detail that the gunman, a youth himself, approached the coffee shop on a scooter. This unidentified suspect was described as having an afro and carrying a distinct “JAWS” bookbag.
