Richard Sherman has reached a resolution in his DUI case, having obtained deferred prosecution as of Tuesday.

The former Seattle Seahawks cornerback appeared in a courthouse in King County, Washington, where he closed the chapter on this legal matter.

To achieve deferred prosecution, Sherman acknowledged that his conduct during the 2024 incident stemmed from a substance use disorder and consented to a two-year treatment program.

Furthermore, he accepted that the police report contained adequate details to suggest his guilt.

This deferred prosecution entails a five-year probation period during which Sherman must remain law-abiding to avoid the repercussions of the original charges.

“This deferred prosecution signifies Mr. Sherman’s dedication to overcoming any personal challenges related to alcohol or other factors that may have contributed to this situation,” remarked Sherman’s attorney, Jon Fox, to TMZ Sports on Tuesday. “This is not merely an alcohol treatment program; it’s a thorough approach. The judge’s granting of this deferred prosecution is an endorsement of what has been proposed, spanning five years. On successful completion and adherence to the stipulations, Mr. Sherman will have the charges dismissed.”

The DUI incident itself arose on February 24, 2024, when police indicated that Sherman showed signs of intoxication after being pulled over for allegedly driving at 79 MPH in a 60 MPH zone.

According to police accounts, Sherman confessed to having consumed two margaritas prior to driving, with officers noting the smell of alcohol and observing his visibly bloodshot and watery eyes.

When requested to take a breathalyzer test, he refused. Subsequent blood tests reportedly indicated a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .11, marginally above the legal threshold of .08.

Despite the ongoing legal challenges, Sherman, a Super Bowl champion and three-time All-Pro player, continues his role as an analyst for “Thursday Night Football.”
