Throughout your year in the program, you will cultivate a robust studio practice enriched by seminars, peer critiques, and personalized mentorship from experienced faculty and visiting artists. Additionally, optional nine-day Summer Symposiums provide a platform to interact with your cohort through exhibitions, constructive critiques, and dialogue—fostering connections with peers, mentors, and the vibrant cultural scene of New York City that inspires innovative thinking.
This program is tailored for artists wishing to elevate their practice while pursuing a master’s degree, including working professionals, caregivers, recent BFA graduates, and self-taught artists looking to formalize their creative work. You will be encouraged to explore new territories, engage with various media, collaborate across disciplines, and develop the essential skills in research, writing, and presentation that are vital for sustaining a long-term artistic career.
Why choose SVA? The interdisciplinary approach, access to an esteemed faculty and visiting artists, a supportive and critically engaged cohort, and the extensive network of SVA within New York City and beyond will nurture your creativity while enhancing your professional development. Whether your next goal involves exhibitions, public projects, educational roles, or new commissions, this MFA program will equip you with a more substantial body of work, a clearer artistic voice, and the practices necessary for ongoing artistic growth.
