Cannabis company Jeeter has chosen Middletown, New York, as the site for its forthcoming packaging center, marking a significant investment in the local economy.

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y.—In a strategic move to expand its operations, Jeeter, known for its pre-rolled cannabis products, has opted to establish a production facility here in Middletown. The company’s decision is backed by a monetary commitment running into millions.

Founded in 2018 in California and now under the umbrella of parent company DreamFields, Jeeter’s expansion signals a growing trend towards the legitimization and commercialization of cannabis across the United States.

Mayor Joseph DeStefano expressed enthusiasm over this development, saying, “We are thrilled to welcome DreamFields to our community as they lay down roots here. Revitalizing vacant industrial spaces with enterprises that create jobs is a priority for us, and DreamFields’ investment is a testament to the potential of our workforce and a promising future for our city.”

The new facility, a transformation of a long-abandoned 33,000-square-foot factory located at 55 Midland Ave, is estimated to boost the local economy with a $10 million investment and the creation of over 200 jobs.

Jeeter has established itself as a major player in the cannabis distribution market, operating not only in California but also in Michigan, Arizona, Massachusetts, and even extending its operations into Canada.

Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus highlighted the economic impact of the project, remarking, “Reviving abandoned industrial sites is essential for job creation and stimulating economic activity. This endeavor will position our county as an innovative industry hub.”

Echoing this sentiment, State Senator James Skoufis pointed out that “The Dreamfields project embodies smart economic development: it promises quality jobs, community engagement, minimal environmental impact, and a rejuvenation of a derelict industrial site.”

It’s important to note that the facility will strictly focus on packaging; no cannabis cultivation or retail operations will be conducted on site. Middletown has opted to exclude on-site cannabis sales and consumption from its plans.

Mayor DeStefano further reassured the community by noting, “The facility’s modern packaging capabilities ensure that there will be minimal to no odor nuisance.”

On a broader scale, DeStefano acknowledged the permanence of cannabis within state law, stating, “As Mayor, it is my duty to uphold the laws of New York State, which permit cannabis use in areas where cigarette smoking is authorized. Personal opinions aside, my priority is to foster job creation and tax revenue for our city.”
