Designers often face a challenging task during the resort season, as they are expected to create pieces for a wide range of events, from tropical vacations to holiday gatherings. However, Andrea Lieberman is expanding her focus beyond occasion-specific attire. “For us, it just seems right—in both business and customer—leaning into wardrobing,” she said. “Instead of this collection that’s very on the nose for this time of year, it’s really built around pieces that will take you through the holiday season, but also through the rest of your life.”
To Lieberman, the quintessential occasionwear is suiting, and A.L.C.’s latest collection draws heavily from menswear influences. A notable piece is a burgundy tuxedo, designed to be worn without anything underneath when buttoned, adding a layer of allure. Elsewhere, she combines elements of a tuxedo jacket with a winter coat, which she describes as “really sick.” While Lieberman is her own ideal customer, she creates designs that go beyond her personal preferences. Consider a white maxi dress featuring a deep V-neck, waist ruching, and open, draped sleeves. “This, for me, is one of those dresses that I’m like, ‘Oh, don’t worry. I’ll always have something to wear because I’ve got this in my closet,'” she remarked.
The collection also includes plenty of casual options, such as slouchy jeans and lace-trimmed knit tanks. However, Lieberman is particularly enthusiastic about her selection of Milano knit hoodies. “It gives you that very sporty feeling, but in a really elevated way,” she stated. “You don’t feel like you’re wearing your kid’s sweatshirt—you feel like you’re wearing something that is refined.” Whether it’s a tuxedo ready for a party or a hoodie for everyday wear, the guiding principle remains refinement.
