A new drug shows promise for hot flashes due to menopause

Elinzanetant works by targeting a specific receptor in the brain that is involved in regulating body temperature. This mechanism is different from hormone replacement therapy, the current standard treatment for menopause symptoms, which can have side effects such as an increased risk of breast cancer, heart disease and stroke. The new drug offers a non-hormonal alternative for women who cannot or do not want to take hormones.

Elinzanetant, a newly approved drug by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, targets receptors on KNDy neurons and has shown promising results in clinical trials. Further studies are being conducted to assess the long-term safety and effectiveness of elinzanetant, especially in women undergoing therapy for hormone-positive breast cancer.
