Shots Fired at Sacramento ABC Affiliate Following Protest Over Jimmy Kimmel’s Suspension

Three gunshots were fired into a window at the ABC affiliate in Sacramento on Friday, just a day after a protest took place outside the station regarding Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension.

The Sacramento Police Department is currently investigating the incident, but as of now, there is no suspect information available. It is unclear whether the shooting was a random act or if the station was targeted specifically, according to a police spokesperson.

The shots were fired at around 1:30 p.m. at the station’s headquarters located at 400 Broadway. Fortunately, the building was occupied at the time, but no injuries were reported.

“Responding officers observed at least three gunshots into a window of the building,” stated the police in a press release. “Our detectives are currently processing the scene and conducting further investigation.”

On Thursday, approximately 15 protesters gathered outside the station, as reported by the Sacramento Bee. The affiliate, ABC10 (KXTV), is owned by Tegna, which is in the process of being acquired by Nexstar.

Molly McMahon, a spokesperson for Tegna, reassured that all employees are safe and unharmed following the incident. She mentioned that they are cooperating with law enforcement and have taken additional precautions to ensure the safety of their staff.

ABC10 provided coverage of the protest at its offices on Thursday, emphasizing that it is not directly affiliated with ABC. The protesters were objecting to ABC’s decision to suspend “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” claiming it violated free speech rights.

The suspension of the show came after FCC Chairman Brendan Carr criticized Kimmel’s comments regarding Charlie Kirk’s killer. Kimmel’s remarks suggested that the suspect had right-wing affiliations, sparking backlash from conservatives who pointed out conflicting evidence.

Supporters of Kimmel have also staged protests in New York and outside the El Capitan Theater in Los Angeles, where the show is filmed.
