Accused killer surgeon Michael McKee was apprehended at a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Illinois, near his medical practice in Rockford, more than a week after allegedly shooting his ex-wife, Monique Tepe, and her new husband to death in their Ohio home last month.

The 39-year-old vascular surgeon, Michael McKee, was taken into custody by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on January 10, according to federal authorities. The arrest came after McKee allegedly traveled approximately 325 miles from Rockford to Columbus, Ohio, where he is accused of killing Monique and Spencer Tepe on December 30.

Police were able to track McKee to the Tepe’s home on the night of the murders, leading to his arrest at the fast-food chain. Columbus authorities have described the killings as a “targeted” act of domestic violence. The gun believed to have been used in the crime has been recovered by the police.

McKee had been married to Monique for two years before their divorce in 2017. Despite court records indicating an amicable split, Monique’s family has since come forward, alleging emotional abuse by McKee during their marriage. The couple did not have any children together.

Monique later married Spencer Tepe, a 37-year-old local dentist, in December 2020. The couple was found dead in their bedroom, with McKee suspected of using a silencer during the attack. Their two young children, aged 4 and 1, were unharmed in another room.

The motive behind the killings remains unknown, and McKee has been indicted on four counts of aggravated murder and one count of aggravated burglary. He is currently in custody in Rockford, awaiting extradition to Ohio for trial.

The tragic incident has left the community in shock, as friends and loved ones mourn the loss of Monique and Spencer Tepe. The investigation into the case continues as authorities work to uncover the reasons behind the senseless act of violence.
