Athleisure soared to new levels on Wednesday evening. High above Manhattan on The Edge observation deck, which stands 1,300 feet in the air, spectators were captivated by four daring women performing an aerial dance on the side of the skyscraper. They wore Adidas’s latest Originals Sport collection, adding to the excitement.Â
The concept for the Originals event was both surprising and fitting. This sky-high dance marked the culmination of a day celebrating the brand’s first Sport collection, designed to allow women to showcase their personal style without sacrificing performance. This commitment to performance was evident in both the aerial dance and a runway-style show featuring pole artists, acrobats, and dancers.
The theme of female empowerment, central to the collection, extended beyond the iconic 3-Stripes adorning the venue. It permeated the evening as attendees mingled on the 100th floor of The Edge before the show. “I signed with Adidas in 2022 when I first entered the track and field arena,” Olympian heptathlete Anna Hall shared with Vogue. “I was thrilled because they also sponsored my idol in the sport, Jackie Joyner-Kersee. Adidas has historically supported the heptathlon, and they genuinely care about women’s sports. We cheer each other on. Adidas follows my track events, and it’s exciting to see what they create.”
Hall wore a leotard from the new collection, which combines classic Originals styles with technology suitable for training. At the heart of the collection was the 3-Stripes design. Singer-songwriter Coco Jones, donning the latest track jacket, remarked, “If you had the 3-stripes growing up, you were that girl.” She continued, “I remember trying to look cool with my athleisure in high school. That’s why I’m so fond of Adidas Originals: it brings back memories of my youth, being a sporty girl who loved music.”
