An individual from Afghanistan, who was an illegal immigrant and previously convicted of attempting to kill his sister for not following strict religious beliefs, has been arrested in Rochester, New York, according to authorities.

The arrested individual, Waheed Allah Mohammad, aged 39, was taken into custody on January 1 by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Mohammad had been convicted of first-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault, leading to a 10-year prison sentence and five years of supervision.

ICE Director Todd M. Lyons emphasized the importance of targeting and removing convicted criminals like Mohammad, who pose significant threats to their families and communities.

In 2008, Mohammad stabbed his sister multiple times during a dispute over her behavior, accusing her of being a “bad Muslim girl” for dressing immodestly and visiting nightclubs.

Despite legally entering the United States in 2004, Mohammad’s criminal conviction violated the terms of his legal status, leading to his arrest in 2009.

Following entry into removal proceedings in 2009, an immigration judge ordered Mohammad’s deportation in 2012.

He is currently held in federal custody awaiting deportation.
