African Defensetech Terra Industries Secures $22 Million in Funding Led by Lux Capital

Just one month after raising $11.75 million in a round led by Joe Lonsdale’s 8VC, African defensetech Terra Industries announced that it’s raised an additional $22 million in funding, led by Lux Capital. The company, founded by Nathan Nwachuku, 22, and Maxwell Maduka, 24, in 2024, focuses on designing infrastructure and autonomous systems to help African nations monitor and respond to threats.

Terrorism remains a significant threat in Africa, with much of the security intelligence coming from foreign countries like Russia, China, or the West. Terra Industries aims to change this narrative by building autonomous defense systems to protect critical infrastructure and resources from armed attacks. CEO Nwachuku stated that their goal is to become “Africa’s first defense prime” and create innovative solutions to safeguard assets.

The recent funding round was fueled by the company’s rapid growth and success in securing government and commercial contracts. Terra has already generated over $2.5 million in commercial revenue and is currently safeguarding assets valued at approximately $11 billion. Investors, including Lux Capital, 8VC, Nova Global, and Resiliience17 Capital, were impressed by the company’s traction and commitment to partnerships.

Expanding beyond Nigeria, Terra Industries is venturing into other African nations to address pressing security concerns. The company has secured partnerships with AIC Steel and is setting up a joint manufacturing facility in Saudi Arabia to focus on surveillance infrastructure and security systems. Nwachuku emphasized the importance of targeting countries where terrorism and infrastructure security are critical issues, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and the Sahel region.

With a total funding of $34 million, Terra Industries is well-positioned to make a substantial impact in the defense tech industry. The company’s innovative approach to autonomous defense systems and infrastructure protection is poised to revolutionize security measures across Africa, saving lives and preserving vital assets.
