A flight attendant from Air Canada was violently ejected from the aircraft during a crash with a fire truck at LaGuardia Airport on Sunday night. She was discovered still secured in her jumpseat, according to sources.
The flight attendant remarkably survived the severe collision after being thrown from Flight 8646, which had departed from Montreal. The aircraft hit the fire truck on Runway 4 at around 11:40 p.m., impacting the truck’s center and causing the Port Authority officers inside to be thrown from their seats, sources reported.
Both pilots lost their lives in the incident.
The extent of the flight attendant’s injuries remains unclear. However, 41 passengers and crew members were hospitalized, some with serious injuries, according to officials.
Preliminary reports from sources suggest that both the plane and the fire truck had authorization — the plane was cleared to land, and the truck had permission to cross the active runway.
