During a recent red carpet event in New York City, Alex Cooper was concerned that her pregnancy might be exposed. However, the focus shifted to her relationship with her husband, Matt Kaplan.
“The only rumors that actually came from the carpet were just how miserable my husband and I looked,” Cooper, 31, said during the Wednesday, June 10, episode of her “Call Her Daddy” podcast. “To see people overanalyzing Matt and me as we were earnestly trying to hide this pregnancy, I was so relieved that they were talking about our dynamic, our supposed marital issues, and no one was talking about a potential bump. It was a win for the Cooper-Kaplans that day.”
Despite the humor, Cooper found it “sad” that people were speculating about her relationship.
“You read those things, and Matt and I are like, no one in our life, our closest friends, our family, is wondering those things,” she said. “It is crazy to see the internet be like, ‘Oh my God, they’re on the rocks.’ And we’re like, “Wait, wait. We are? What’s happening?’ I think that is an odd part of the job that I don’t enjoy.”
Cooper and Kaplan married in April 2024. She reassured her fans that they are “good” and face no issues.
“No one needs to worry,” Cooper added. “Matt and I are great.”
On May 13, Cooper and Kaplan attended the YouTube Brandcast event. Cooper wore an outfit meant to conceal her baby bump, but it ended up being too tight, causing her to worry about revealing her pregnancy.
“I’m so emotional. I’m so hormonal, and I was not prepared for the energy of a red carpet,” she recalled. “The last thing that I wanted was for me to get on this carpet and for those buttons that couldn’t stay secure for the life of them to just boom — hit them with the belly.”
Cooper announced her pregnancy on Instagram on May 17, a few days after the red carpet event.
“Daddy Gang, there is something I’ve been waiting to share with you,” she shared that day, showing off photos of her growing baby bump. “Honestly happy I can finally stop trying to hide the bump lol.”

During her podcast on Wednesday, Cooper mentioned that her intention was to keep the pregnancy under wraps until August or September.
“I really just wanted to stay in this bubble and not, I don’t know, not open it up for public commentary for honestly as long as I could,” Cooper explained on Wednesday. “Obviously, that plan didn’t work as expected.”
Cooper decided to share her pregnancy news because the bump was becoming too difficult to conceal under her clothes.
“Plain and simple,” she added. “The process of trying to hide it was literally causing me more anxiety than just putting it out there and being honest with the world.”
