Kathryn Hahn has been announced as the newest addition to Disney’s live-action adaptation of the beloved fairy tale, Tangled. She will be portraying the iconic villain Mother Gothel, a manipulative woman who raises Princess Rapunzel in seclusion to harness the magical power of her hair for her own benefit.
Hahn herself confirmed the news through a playful social media post featuring an “outfit of the day” video wearing a shirt featuring the character. The live-action Tangled is based on Disney’s popular 2010 animated film, which drew inspiration from the classic fairy tale Rapunzel by the Brothers Grimm.
Joining Hahn in the cast is Teagan Croft, who will be taking on the lead role of Rapunzel. Croft is best known for her portrayal of Rachel Roth, also known as Raven, in the superhero series Titans. Milo Manheim has also been confirmed to play Flynn Rider, with his claim to fame being the Disney Channel musical franchise Zombies.
The film will be directed by Michael Gracey, known for his work on the musical hit The Greatest Showman, while the screenplay is being penned by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, whose previous works include Do Revenge and Thor: Love and Thunder. Kristin Burr will be producing the project through Burr! Productions, with Lucy Kitada serving as executive producer.
The original animated film, Tangled, was released by Disney in November 2010 and followed the story of Rapunzel, a princess with magical golden hair who dreams of exploring the world outside her tower. The film featured Mandy Moore as Rapunzel, Zachary Levi as Flynn Rider, and Donna Murphy as Mother Gothel.
While the live-action Tangled is still in its early stages, Disney is currently in the process of casting and developing the script. Details such as the release date, plot, and additional casting information are yet to be revealed by the studio.
Fans of the original animated film can look forward to seeing a new interpretation of the beloved story brought to life on the big screen, with Kathryn Hahn stepping into the shoes of the devious Mother Gothel. Stay tuned for more updates on Disney’s live-action Tangled as the project continues to progress.
