The recent unveiling of a 28-point “peace plan” by the Trump administration, purportedly crafted by Russian officials, raises eyebrows. This proposal seems to coerce Ukraine into accepting terms that would not only require significant territorial concessions but also a drastic reduction in its military capabilities. Rather than a genuine effort to establish peace, this document reads more like a wishlist from the Kremlin, aimed at securing Ukraine’s capitulation.
So extreme is this plan in its pro-Putin, anti-democratic stance that it has sparked immediate backlash from House Republicans.
Representative Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) expressed his discontent on social media platform X, stating:
Correction: The United States is demanding an unconditional withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukraine by Thursday. This Russian-drafted propaganda must be treated as the trivial nonsense it represents.
We must pursue Peace Through Strength, not appeasement. Today, we’ve formally notified both the House Clerk and leadership of our discharge petition to initiate a vote on imposing stringent sanctions against Russia once we reconvene.
Echoing these sentiments, Representative Don Bacon (R-NE) took to X to declare, “We cannot abdicate our role as the global beacon for freedom and the rule of law. This agreement will be remembered as a shameful chapter in U.S. history. The vast majority of Americans will vehemently oppose surrendering to Putin.”
