M Content, a production company founded by Amaya Muruzábal, the creative force behind Amazon MGM Studios’ “Red Queen,” has announced a partnership with leading Irish production company Vico Films to collaborate on a new historical epic series project titled “The Patricios.”
“The Patricios” is a real-facts based series created and written by Muruzábal. Set in 1846, the series follows the Saint Patrick’s Battalion during the U.S.–Mexico War. This group of Irish immigrants enlisted in the Texas Rangers but eventually deserted the U.S. army to join the Mexican side. Their story culminates in their final stand at San Ángel, where they were captured and sentenced to death.
Director Julián de Tavira, known for his work on projects like “Like Water for Chocolate” and “Hernán,” is attached to direct the series. “The Patricios” aims to narrate a forgotten war that changed the course of history and continues to shape the world today.
Amaya Muruzábal emphasized the relevance of the series, stating that it explores themes of identity, justice, migration, and the blending of cultures that still influence the United States today. The series is envisioned as an ambitious international co-production, with English as the main language and Spanish integrated organically throughout the narrative.
The project has the consulting expertise of Italian author Pino Cacucci, known for his novel “San Patrick’s Battalion.” Vico Films, a prominent Irish production house, brings its international drama experience to the table, ensuring the authenticity and depth of the storytelling.
Cormac Fox, partner at Vico Films, highlighted the extraordinary journey of the Irish soldiers in “The Patricios,” emphasizing their choice to prioritize conscience over allegiance. This true story serves as a timely reminder of the importance of standing up for what is right in a divided world.
M Content, founded in 2024 by Amaya Muruzábal, focuses on energetic, bold stories with a touch of “Latin coolness,” targeting the global audiovisual market. The company is actively seeking creative and production partners for “The Patricios,” with a goal of bringing the transnational series to audiences worldwide.
“The Patricios” will be presented at the current edition of Conecta Fiction & Entertainment’s Pitch Co-Pro Series, with a focus on finding the right partners to bring the project to life. The 9th edition of Conecta Fiction & Entertainment is set to run from June 16-19 in Cuenca, Spain.
Overall, “The Patricios” promises to be a compelling and thought-provoking series that delves into a lesser-known chapter of history while resonating with contemporary themes and issues. With a talented team behind it, including M Content and Vico Films, the series is poised to make a significant impact on audiences worldwide.
