American Idol contestant Benjamin Glaze, who gained fame for receiving a kiss from Katy Perry during his audition, has found himself in legal trouble. Glaze has been arrested for allegedly possessing child pornography, according to TMZ reports.
The Tulsa Police Department’s Sexual Predator/Digital Evidence Recovery Unit received information indicating that Glaze was in possession of child sexual abuse material. Subsequently, a warrant was executed, and law enforcement officials claim to have discovered over 700 images and videos of sexual abuse material involving minors on Glaze’s smartphone.
Glaze was taken into custody on Friday afternoon and was subsequently booked into the Tulsa County Jail. He was released on a $50,000 bond later that same evening.
Fans of American Idol may recall Glaze’s viral moment during season 16 of the show. During his audition, the judges, including Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, were informed by Glaze that he had never kissed a girl at the age of 19. Although all three judges voted against him, Perry surprised Glaze by kissing him, a gesture that sparked controversy among fans who criticized Perry for making him uncomfortable. However, Glaze later clarified that he did not feel sexually assaulted by Perry.
As this story develops, attempts to reach out to individuals close to Benjamin Glaze for comment have been unsuccessful. It remains to be seen how this legal situation will unfold and what impact it will have on Glaze’s future.
