Amprius Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:AMPX) has recently been identified as one of the best alternative energy stocks to invest in by analysts. The company made headlines on February 3 when it announced a partnership with Nanotech Energy, a U.S.-based advanced lithium-ion battery developer, to manufacture silicon-anode battery cells. This partnership marks a significant milestone for Amprius, as Nanotech Energy becomes their first domestic manufacturing partner.

The collaboration with Nanotech Energy was driven by Amprius’ defense customer base and the updated National Defense Authorization Act, which now requires all defense-related hardware to be locally sourced and manufactured. The product being produced under this agreement is the Amprius SA128, a 21700 cylindrical silicon-anode cell with a capacity of 6.8 Ah and a specific energy of 320 Wh/kg.

In a surprising move on the same day, Amprius disclosed in an SEC filing that it terminated its lease for a large industrial facility in Brighton, Colorado, paying a $20 million termination fee. The facility, spanning approximately 774,155 square feet, was intended to serve as a major domestic manufacturing site for Amprius. The lease had been signed just 19 months earlier and was initially set to run for 15 years.

In other news, Needham analyst Austin Bohlig initiated coverage on Amprius on January 29 with a Buy rating and a price target of $20. Bohlig highlighted Amprius as a key pure-play battery supplier to the unmanned aerial systems (UAS) sector, noting that a significant portion of the company’s revenues come from this segment. He also expressed optimism about the UAS market, describing it as being in the early stages of a global, multi-year supercycle driven by demand from both defense and commercial sectors.

Amprius Technologies Inc. is a battery manufacturer based in Fremont, California, specializing in high-energy density lithium-ion batteries utilizing proprietary silicon nanowire anode technology. These batteries offer longer range, faster charging, and higher payload capacity compared to traditional lithium-ion cells.
