Google is developing Android 17, and the latest beta release of this operating system has addressed a persistent issue I’ve encountered with Pixel phones, bringing considerable satisfaction.

The third beta version of Android 17 is now available, and by enrolling in the Android Beta Program, users can experience it on a compatible Pixel phone. I tested it on a Pixel 9 Pro and discovered a particularly pleasing and unexpected modification.

Google has opted to separate the Wi-Fi and mobile data options into distinct quick setting tiles, much to my relief.

Since Google combined these options into a single ‘Internet’ quick setting in Android 12 in 2021, users needed extra taps to toggle them. This change has been a source of irritation for me.

Although it might seem minor, I frequently switch between these settings for various reasons. Now, individual taps can control each setting, and a long press leads to the current Internet menu. This may be subject to change in future updates.

The new tiles are initially small squares, but users can modify and rearrange them if desired.

Enjoy easier data toggling, Pixel enthusiasts!

Android 17 is expected to be fully released in June or July, ahead of the Pixel 11 phones. The OS, known as ‘Cinnamon Bun,’ promises several new features.

Among the innovations are a turbo charging feature, a contact picker, and a new blurred visual style.

Check if your phone will receive the Android 17 update.
