Some celebrities have chosen to step back on their own accord.
Singer Zayn Malik, 33, criticized the event as “self-indulgent,” while Amy Schumer, 44, once compared attending to a “punishment,” although she later made an unexpected return after her criticism of the gala.
It has come to light that rapper Nicki Minaj, 43, is rumored to be permanently excluded from the gala following several politically charged remarks and controversies.
Furthermore, Marty Supreme actress Gwyneth Paltrow is reportedly on Wintour’s banned list after describing the event as “hot” and “crowded” and commenting that guests seemed too old to “dress up punk.”
Despite the rumors, the Met Gala’s official position remains unclear.
A source with knowledge of the 2026 event planning stated: “There is no written list, but there is a memory – and it is long. Anna manages the gala like an editor manages a magazine. Every name must align with the narrative and tone she prefers.”
An insider remarked: “You are either in Anna’s world – or you are not. And once you are out, there is rarely a way back.”
