On Tuesday, Desi Lydic, host of “The Daily Show,” used her monologue to criticize President Donald Trump over his remarks about the “power of the nuclear weapon” while children were present at the White House.
During an Oval Office signing ceremony, the president stated, “We can’t let Iran have a nuclear weapon,” and then turned to a child beside him, saying, “You might be too young for this.”
Lydic humorously responded, “No, they’re not too young. I’m sure they’ve already seen the ‘Paw Patrol’ episode where they drop a ballistic missile on Humdinger.”
Lydic questioned the appropriateness of discussing “nuclear war” in front of children during the Oval Office photo-op, where Trump signed an executive order to reinstate the presidential fitness test.
The comedian asked, “If there was ever an event where it was important to stick to the topic at hand, it’s the one where you’re surrounded by small children. You understand that, right?”
The show featured a montage of odd moments from the event, including Trump’s claims of a “rigged” election, comments on “transgender mutilization,” mentions of people arriving from “prisons and mental institutions,” and a remark about a woman being fatally shot in the head.
Lydic joked, “Hi, mom, can you pick me up from the White House? The president is trauma-dumping on me again,” and added:
“So when Trump’s talking to a room full of adults, he sounds like a child. When he’s talking to a room full of children, he sounds like Pennywise.”
