Anysphere Acquires AI Coding Assistant Supermaven

Anysphere, the company behind Cursor, has made a significant acquisition by purchasing the AI coding assistant Supermaven. The exact amount for which the acquisition took place has not been disclosed.

CEO Michael Truell of Anysphere shared the news of the acquisition in a post on Cursor’s blog. According to Truell, the integration of Supermaven will allow Anysphere to introduce a new iteration of its Tab AI model. This new version promises to be fast, context-aware, and highly intelligent, particularly when dealing with lengthy code sequences.

Truell confirmed that the Supermaven plugin will continue to receive support, but the primary focus will now shift towards Cursor. He explained, “This aligns with Supermaven’s previous strategy as the team had already transitioned their focus towards an editor due to limitations posed by extension APIs. By joining forces, we believe we can collaborate to develop a more efficient and enhanced product at a quicker pace.”
