Apple’s Board Opposes Proposal to End Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Programs
Apple’s board of directors has taken a firm stance against a proposal that aims to terminate the company’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. This move comes in response to a submission by the National Center for Public Policy Research, a conservative think tank, urging Apple to consider dismantling its Inclusion & Diversity program, policies, department, and goals.
In a proxy filing released by the company, it was revealed that the think tank’s proposal raises concerns about DEI programs potentially exposing companies to legal risks. Citing a recent Supreme Court ruling against race-based affirmative action in colleges and pointing out that other tech giants like Meta and Amazon have either scaled back or eliminated their DEI programs, the proposal seeks to challenge the necessity of such initiatives.
However, Apple has defended its stance by highlighting the robust compliance program already in place, which is designed to ensure legal adherence and prevent any liabilities. The company dismissed the proposal as “unnecessary” and criticized it for attempting to interfere with the internal management of its programs and policies.
Apple emphasized its commitment to fostering a culture of inclusivity and belonging within the organization, where all employees are empowered to thrive and contribute their best work.
