Steinley, a former president and current vice president of the trade group, has vehemently denied all allegations of misconduct. Despite the Appraisal Institute’s assertion that it has policies in place to prevent harassment, retaliation, and discrimination, multiple women have come forward with accounts of uncomfortable encounters, unwanted physical contact, and inappropriate behavior by Steinley.
One of the high-profile accusations against Steinley came from Cindy Chance, the institute’s former chief executive, who filed a lawsuit alleging wrongful termination and sexual harassment. Chance claimed that Steinley made lewd comments, touched her inappropriately, and created a hostile work environment.

Alissa Akins, the institute’s former director of education and publications, raised concerns about these discrepancies and was subsequently fired, further raising questions about the organization’s integrity and transparency.
