The tragic story of Christopher Scholtes, the Arizona dad who left his 2-year-old daughter to die in a hot car while he watched porn, has taken a shocking turn with his death being ruled a suicide. The 38-year-old was found dead in a Phoenix home just hours before he was supposed to report to prison for sentencing, facing up to 30 years behind bars for second-degree murder.
Scholtes’ cowardly act of suicide came as a surprise to courthouse officials who were expecting him to appear for his hearing. This comes more than a year after his daughter, Parker, was found dead in their Marana home driveway on a scorching July day in 2024. Scholtes had initially claimed he left the toddler in the car for 30 minutes with the air conditioning on, but later admitted to leaving her for over three hours while he indulged in watching porn, playing video games, and drinking beer inside the house.
His older children from a previous marriage revealed that Scholtes had a history of leaving them in the car, and his younger daughters with Parker’s mother, Erika, also reported similar incidents of being left strapped in the car by their father. When Parker’s mother, an anesthesiologist, returned home to find her daughter’s lifeless body, Scholtes panicked and insisted he had only left her outside for a short time.
Despite his initial denial, Scholtes’ texts with his wife revealed a different story, with the mother expressing anger and grief over the loss of their daughter. The wife even requested for Scholtes to come home after his arrest so they could grieve together, but it was later revealed that one of Scholtes’ older daughters from a previous marriage had sued him and Erika for causing her emotional distress and detailing incidents of being left in cars since she was 7 years old.
The lawsuit also alleged assault and battery from both Scholtes and Erika towards the older daughter. The guardian of the 17-year-old girl spoke out about the immense suffering she endured at the hands of Christopher and Erika. The tragic death of Parker and the subsequent events involving Scholtes’ suicide shed light on the disturbing and heartbreaking consequences of neglect and abuse within a family.
