A 25-year-old man who was discovered bleeding and lying face-down at a street corner on the Northwest Side last week has passed away. Sources connected to the investigation indicate that he may have been beaten to death.

Alexander Kazanowski, residing on the 4000 block of West Nelson Street, was found unresponsive at the intersection of Belmont and Harding avenues in Avondale around 3:15 a.m. on March 24. A passerby noticed blood near his head and alerted 911, according to sources and records from the Cook County Medical Examiner.

The Chicago Fire Department took Kazanowski to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday afternoon, officials reported.

An autopsy was scheduled, but as of Monday, the results were still pending.

According to a source familiar with the case, preliminary investigations suggest Kazanowski might have been involved in a disagreement at a nearby bar. The altercation reportedly continued on the street after the other individual followed him outside while he was walking home. As of Monday, the investigation was ongoing, and no arrests had been made.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings.
Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
