Man Wanted in Four Illinois Counties Shot by Chicago Police

A man who was shot by Chicago police officers over the weekend has been identified as Kewion Kingcaid, 21, of Carol Stream. Court records reveal that Kingcaid was wanted by authorities in four different Illinois counties at the time of the incident. He remains hospitalized for injuries sustained during the altercation with law enforcement.

The incident took place on the 1900 block of North Austin late Saturday night after a 911 call reporting individuals with firearms at a party. Upon arrival, officers discovered an “illegal party” and ordered the crowd to disperse. While most complied, Kingcaid was spotted walking in a different direction, holding an object in front of himself.

Officers followed Kingcaid and instructed him to show his hands. A brief foot pursuit ensued, culminating in an officer-involved shooting. According to Chicago police, Kingcaid turned towards officers with a firearm, prompting one of them to fire. An “AR-type pistol” with a loaded 30-round magazine was found near Kingcaid after the incident.

Kingcaid has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated assault of a peace officer. In addition to these charges, he had active warrants in four counties, including a robbery case in Cook County suburbs and obstructing a peace officer in DuPage County.

He will remain in custody on the warrants and face a detention hearing for the new charges once he is discharged from the hospital.
