Arnold Schwarzenegger Admits Age Has Changed ‘Conan’ Comeback

Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed that as he nears 80, the anticipated return of Conan the Barbarian has evolved to incorporate the character’s age as a central theme.

According to exclusive information from RadarOnline.com, sources close to the production say that Schwarzenegger believes the time elapsed since the original Conan film has only added depth to the sequel, making it more captivating now than it might have been in the past.

The actor, who is also known for his roles as a California governor and a seven-time Mr. Olympia, marked his 79th birthday by working out at Gold’s Gym in Venice, California. He took this opportunity to promote his fitness platform, Arnold’s Pump Club.

While reflecting on the prospects of playing his iconic fantasy role in King Conan, an eagerly awaited sequel developed by writer-director Christopher McQuarrie at 20th Century Studios, Schwarzenegger shared his thoughts.

Industry insiders note that the film has grown into a narrative focused on experience, endurance, and leadership, themes they feel align well with Schwarzenegger’s current life stage, more so than they would have in earlier years.

A source involved in the project stated, “Arnold has long believed Conan deserves a fitting story, not just another sequel. Both he and the character have gained a fresh perspective with age, which is what excites him the most.”

Another insider added, “This iteration of Conan acknowledges the passage of time. It illustrates how a legendary warrior bears the weight of years, and Arnold believes audiences will resonate with that.”

Schwarzenegger remarked, “The movie wouldn’t have succeeded right after the first Conan because the essence of King Conan is that he has been king for 40 years. He is older now.”

He explained, “He’s no longer in his prime physical shape, and people are now attempting to dethrone him. As king, he becomes complacent, grows weary of the role, and desires change.”

He related the film’s concept to Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven, saying, “It will be similar but will feature extraordinary battles.”

Schwarzenegger’s birthday also highlighted his ongoing dedication to fitness.

In photos shared from the gym, he expressed his wish to receive no presents, instead urging his 62.1 million social media followers to join Arnold’s Pump Club, offering a complimentary first year to anyone who completes four workout programs.

He declared, “I turn 79 today. I don’t want any gifts.”

In response to questioning his business acumen, Schwarzenegger asserted, “I am a good businessman.”

He elaborated, “But the Pump Club isn’t supported by a private equity or hedge fund. It’s funded by me. This is a mission, not just a business. After six decades of promoting fitness, I’ve finally found something that works.”

He concluded, “If I can get millions to train all year, I’ll accept the loss.”

His eldest daughter, Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt, celebrated the day with a touching social media message.

She wrote, “Happy birthday, Dad! We’re so lucky you’re ours… and our kids are even luckier to have you as Opa.”

Schwarzenegger, whose career spans bodybuilding, politics, and film, is also gearing up for the release of The Man with the Bag. This action-comedy, directed by Adam Shankman, features him as Santa Claus alongside Alan Ritchson, Jane Krakowski, Ken Jeong, Awkwafina, Michael Cyril Creighton, Kyle Mooney, Liza Koshy, and Adrian Martinez.

Additionally, he has commenced filming The Kellys, an action thriller by Brad Peyton, co-starring Liam Hemsworth, Geena Davis, Michael Biehn, and Noomi Rapace.
