An individual aged 54 has been arrested following the discovery of a significant cannabis cultivation operation in Ashburton.

According to a police representative, authorities found 608g of cannabis and 51 packets of the substance, all prepared for distribution, within a residence. Acting on a tip provided to Crimestoppers, a search warrant was executed at the location on Tuesday evening.

“After seizing the illicit substances and more than $3000 in cash, four rooms utilized for the operation were dismantled,” stated the spokesperson in a release.

The 54-year-old suspect faces charges for cultivating and distributing cannabis and is scheduled to appear at Ashburton District Court on Monday, July 21.

Law enforcement officials underscored their commitment to combating the harmful effects of the illegal drug trade on the community. They emphasized that operations like this, initiated from information received via Crimestoppers, can help mitigate the impact of drugs on society.

If you wish to report any criminal activity, you can contact the police directly at 111 or provide information anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
