Dancing With The Stars participants Scott Hoying and Rylee Arnold showcased their dance skills this week with a performance of High School Musical‘s âBop to the Top,â prompting a reaction from Ashley Tisdale.
Tisdale, known for her iconic portrayal of Sharpay in the Disney classic, shared her thoughts on TikTok on Friday, October 10, regarding the homage to the beloved song.
The video featured Tisdale lounging on her bed as she watched the energetic performance by Hoying, 34, and Arnold, 20, on her phone, captured by an unseen individual.
âOh my God, they really nailed the dance moves,â Tisdale, 40, commented, noting that while the pair included several original moves, they also incorporated some ballroom elements.
Tisdale expressed admiration for the performance, acknowledging the duo’s efforts in recreating the choreography from the original movie. However, she conveyed her surprise at hearing another rendition of âBop to the Top.â
âItâs odd to hear someone else sing it,â Tisdale remarked.
Hoying, a member of Pentatonix, and Arnold took the stage during the Dancing With The Stars Disney Night, delivering a salsa-inspired routine to the hit track.
Their performance earned them a score of 21 out of 30 from the judges, ensuring their continuation in the competition. Sadly, duo Hilaria Baldwin and Gleb Savchenko were voted off.
@ashleytisdale Replying to @em forever a bop â€ïž obsessed!! You guys made Sharpay proud
Sharp-eyed fans noted Hoyingâs subtle nods to High School Musical‘s Ryan EvansâSharpayâs brotherâduring the episode, especially pointing out his various hats during post-dance interviews.
Tisdale starred in the entire High School Musical trilogy, released in 2006, 2007, and 2008, and reprised her role in the 2011 spin-off Sharpayâs Fabulous Adventure.
While grateful for her iconic role, Tisdale has previously mentioned her reluctance to step back into Sharpay’s shoes.
âI just feel like I wouldnât be able to do it justice again,â she expressed to Entertainment Tonight in August 2021.
Tisdale voiced her worries about not wanting to diminish the original magic of her character and disappointing her fans.
âDuring that period, I wasnât fully aware of myself or my surroundings, which is a significant part of Sharpayâs character,â Tisdale elaborated. âAs I matured and grew in self-awareness, I realized it wouldnât quite carry the same charm.â
âThe original was so special, and I wouldnât want to tarnish the perfection of that. I think it’s for the best that I donât revisit it,â she concluded.
Dancing With the Stars airs on ABC and Disney+ Tuesdays at 8 p.m.
