BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
Throughout the annals of our great nation, the United States has thrived on the rich tapestry woven by citizens of diverse backgrounds, all driven by the universal aspiration known as the American Dream. As we commemorate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we take a moment to reflect on the profound and lasting influence that Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have imparted on our society. Through trials and tribulations, their unwavering commitment has propelled the advancement of our collective journey.
In the 1980s, Lakshmi and Radhakrishna Chilukuri embarked on a new chapter of their lives, leaving India for the shores of America. They devoted themselves to the pursuit of higher education, laying down roots and nurturing a family, while instilling in their daughters, Usha and Shreya, the values of diligence, perseverance, and an insatiable thirst for knowledge. Today, Usha proudly serves as the Second Lady of the United States, while Tulsi Gabbard, born in American Samoa, has dedicated her life to the service of our Republic, both in the military and as the Director of National Intelligence. Currently, over 77,000 Asian American and Pacific Islanders stand valiantly in our Armed Forces, their narratives contributing to the strength, safety, and prosperity of our nation.
This month, we honor the illustrious legacy of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, celebrating their invaluable contributions to the grand narrative of our national achievements. Their stories are intricately woven into the very fabric of our Republic, serving as a potent reminder that the essence of the American spirit lies in resilience, independence, and an unyielding quest for freedom and opportunity.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim May 2025 as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. This designation has also been endorsed by Congress through Public Law 102-450, as amended, which recognizes May each year as “Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month.” I urge all Americans to delve deeper into the histories and contributions of those of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander heritage, and to celebrate this month with meaningful programs and activities.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this
sixteenth day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-five, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-ninth.
DONALD J. TRUMP
