Snap Faces Executive Shake-Up Ahead of AR Glasses Release

Snap Inc. is gearing up for the launch of the latest version of its augmented reality glasses, Specs, later this year. However, recent reports have revealed a shake-up within the company as one of its top executives tied to the project has departed following a rumored dispute with Snap CEO Evan Spiegel.

The departure of Scott Myers, who served as the Senior Vice President of Specs at Snap, was first reported by tech blog Sources. While the exact details of Myers’ exit remain undisclosed, a Snap spokesperson confirmed that he had chosen to step down from his role at the company. The spokesperson also clarified that there was no “blow-up” incident, as initially suggested, but refrained from providing further information on the matter.

In response to inquiries from JS, the Snap spokesperson expressed gratitude for Myers’ contributions and wished him well in his future endeavors. The company remains committed to delivering Specs to the market later this year, emphasizing its dedication to operational efficiency and long-term value creation for stakeholders.

Despite the lack of specifics surrounding Myers’ departure, it is evident that his absence comes at a crucial time for Snap, as the company has been ramping up efforts to bring Specs to consumers. In January, Snap announced the establishment of a separate subsidiary, Specs Inc., to streamline the focus and direction of the AR glasses project.

Myers, who joined Snap in 2020 with a background in companies like SpaceX, Apple, and Nokia, had previously highlighted the challenges of designing Specs in an interview last summer. He emphasized the importance of achieving the right form factor for the glasses, noting his aversion to traditional wires protruding from the device.

As Snap continues to navigate the departure of Myers and prepare for the launch of Specs, industry observers are keen to see how the company will navigate this transition and maintain momentum for its highly anticipated AR glasses release.
