In a brazen act of criminality, a group of auto thieves brandished guns at three Chicago firefighters who caught them in the act of breaking into a firefighter’s car outside an Avondale firehouse on Thanksgiving morning. The incident took place outside Engine 91’s station house in the 2800 block of North Pulaski Road, where the offenders were attempting to steal a Dodge Charger belonging to one of the firefighters.

According to a police report, the firefighters noticed four men breaking into the vehicle and decided to confront them. In response, the thieves pulled out handguns, forcing the firefighters to retreat. The culprits then quickly got into a waiting SUV and fled the scene heading north on Pulaski Road. Fortunately, they were unsuccessful in their attempt to steal the firefighter’s car, and no injuries were reported as a result of the altercation.

This alarming incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks and challenges faced by first responders, even within the confines of their own workplace. The audacity and violence displayed by these criminals highlight the need for increased vigilance and security measures to protect those who dedicate their lives to serving and protecting the community.

The Chicago Fire Department and local law enforcement agencies are actively investigating the incident in the hopes of identifying and apprehending the perpetrators. In the meantime, the firefighters at Engine 91 continue to carry out their duties with professionalism and dedication, despite the unsettling encounter.

As we reflect on this unsettling event, it is crucial to acknowledge the bravery and resilience of our first responders, who put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe. Their unwavering commitment to public service is truly commendable, and they deserve our utmost respect and support.
