Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show, also known as the “Benito Bowl” by his fans, drew an impressive average of 128.2 million viewers on Sunday. This exceeded the 124.9 million average viewership for this year’s Super Bowl as a whole, although it fell short of the 133.5 million viewers that Kendrick Lamar attracted last year. Prior to Lamar, Usher held the record for his 2024 performance.
Leading up to the big game, Bad Bunny’s halftime show generated buzz for multiple reasons. Not only is Bad Bunny currently one of the most popular recording artists in the world, but there were also complaints from right-wing commentators regarding his focus on his Puerto Rican heritage in his work. Turning Point USA, a conservative group co-founded by the late Charlie Kirk, even produced an alternative halftime show, featuring headliner Kid Rock, aimed at those who “love America.” However, TPUSA’s show failed to compete with Bad Bunny’s performance. According to the New York Times, TPUSA’s YouTube livestream peaked at 6.1 million viewers during the show and has since garnered 21 million views, in contrast to Bad Bunny’s massive viewership on Sunday and 57 million YouTube views.
Bad Bunny’s halftime show was full of highlights, including a real wedding, daring stunts, surprise appearances by Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin, and 380 people dressed as grass.
