A Tragic Fire Claims the Life of a Beloved 90-Year-Old Woman in the Bronx

On Tuesday night, a devastating fire broke out in a residential building in the Bronx, resulting in the death of a 90-year-old woman who was a well-known figure in her community.

The fire, which occurred on the second floor of a two-story apartment building on Boston Road and Forest Avenue, was reported to the FDNY at 8:53 p.m.

Approximately 60 firefighters and EMS personnel worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames by 9:36 p.m., but tragically, the 90-year-old woman was found inside the building and pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.

While her identity has not been disclosed pending family notification, neighbors described her as a beloved member of the community.

One neighbor, Dorita Joseph, shared, “She is a godly woman, god-fearing, very friendly, and well-known in the community. We love gardening, so we both exchange flowers. She taught me a bit about gardening.”

Another resident expressed sadness over the loss, especially considering that the victim, who used a wheelchair, may not have been able to escape the fire.
