Are you looking to maximize your savings and earn more interest on your money? One great way to do that is by investing in a certificate of deposit (CD). By locking in a competitive rate today, you can watch your balance grow over time. However, with rates varying widely across financial institutions, it’s crucial to find the best offer available.

Today, the landscape of CD rates is shifting. Historically, longer-term CDs used to offer higher interest rates compared to shorter-term CDs. This was done to incentivize savers to keep their money deposited for longer periods. However, in today’s economic climate, the tables have turned.

The highest CD rate available today is 4% APY, offered by Marcus by Goldman Sachs on their 9-month CD. This competitive rate can help your savings grow significantly over the term of the CD.

When considering how much interest you can earn with a CD, it all comes down to the annual percentage rate (APY). This metric takes into account the base interest rate and how often interest compounds. For example, investing $1,000 in a one-year CD with a 1.52% APY that compounds monthly would yield $15.20 in interest, bringing your total balance to $1,015.20 at the end of the year.

Opting for a higher APY, such as a 4% rate, can significantly boost your earnings. If you were to deposit $10,000 in a one-year CD with a 4% APY, you could earn $407.42 in interest, bringing your total balance to $10,407.42 at maturity.

Beyond traditional CDs, there are other types of CDs to consider that offer different benefits. For example, a bump-up CD allows you to request a higher interest rate if rates increase during the term. A no-penalty CD, also known as a liquid CD, allows you to withdraw funds before maturity without incurring a penalty. Jumbo CDs require a higher minimum deposit but may offer higher interest rates. Brokered CDs, purchased through a brokerage, can sometimes provide higher rates or more flexible terms, but they may carry more risk and may not be FDIC-insured.

By exploring these different types of CDs and staying informed about current rates, you can make strategic decisions to maximize your savings and watch your money grow over time. So, consider locking in a high CD rate today and start growing your balance with ease.
