In a twist worthy of a political thriller, Letitia James’ legal team is asserting that the investigation into her alleged mortgage fraud is nothing more than a politically charged attack. The irony here is palpable—almost enough to make one’s irony meter explode.
This claim is particularly amusing given that James appears to be diverting attention from her mounting legal challenges by initiating yet another lawsuit against Donald Trump. One has to wonder if her lawyers are aware that she built much of her campaign around the promise to pursue Trump at any cost. Yes, she actually made it a central theme of her candidacy.
Now, with her own legal troubles surfacing, she’s suddenly crying foul and suggesting that it’s all a political witch hunt. The absurdity is almost laughable.

NEW: Big Tish lawyers are calling the reported FBI probe against her “politically motivated.”

In a further twist, it has come to light that New York taxpayers may be saddled with the bill for Letitia James’ legal defense. According to a report from Gothamist, the state budget has allocated $10 million specifically for the private legal defense of state employees facing federal investigations, provided those investigations stem from their official duties. This provision seems tailor-made for James, who notably secured a $450 million judgment against Trump, his family, and his business just last year. The criteria for this funding includes employees who have initiated any criminal or civil investigations into federal officials.
State Senator Andrew Lanza, a Republican from Staten Island, expressed the sentiments of many, stating, “I can’t imagine a majority of New Yorkers not being outraged that their hard-earned dollars that go to the government are now being used — or can be used — to pay for private attorneys to defend public officials against charges of crimes that they committed, having nothing to do with their elected position.”
The taxpayers of New York certainly deserve a better allocation of their resources than this.
