In an editorial for The Guardian, Judge Ali described the travel ban as a “campaign of animus against people of the Muslim faith.” He has also been an advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion within the legal profession, citing the lack of representation for people of color and immigrants.
As the former Executive Director of the MacArthur Justice Center, a Black Lives Matter-aligned group, Judge Ali has been a vocal supporter of defunding the police and dropping felony charges against violent BLM activists.
