Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is attempting to persuade the American public that the Trump administration and Republican lawmakers have not stripped healthcare from millions of individuals.
During an appearance on Meet The Press, Speaker Johnson stated:
“The bill does not cut Medicaid. The One Big Beautiful Bill does not cut Medicaid. What it does is strengthen the program. We’ve identified a significant amount of fraud and waste in that program, amounting to tens of billions annually. Our approach is to address that issue. By introducing work requirements, which surveys show are quite popular, we aim to ensure that Medicaid serves its intended purpose as a safety net for the elderly, disabled, young single mothers, and others in need. Unfortunately, able-bodied young men without dependents have been taking advantage of the system. This is not just wrong but also against the law. Our Big Beautiful Bill rectifies this by implementing work requirements of 20 hours per week.”
“These individuals must either be employed, seeking employment, participating in job training, or volunteering in their communities. This not only benefits them but also enriches their surroundings. We take pride in our work, and we are proud of this reform. A recent poll from Harris and Harvard highlighted that 17 out of 21 primary provisions in our Big Beautiful Bill have majority public support, even after facing significant opposition from mainstream media and Democrats. We are eager to share this truth in districts throughout August.”

“They must demonstrate that they are engaged in one of these activities to receive benefits. I believe taxpayers will appreciate this change, and the remainder of the bill is also widely favored.”
Johnson argues that while critics claim there are cuts to Medicaid, Republicans are the ones telling the truth.
In his view, all non-partisan entities and analysts are misrepresenting the facts.
It is quite a feat for someone who identifies as a person of faith to so effortlessly mislead the American public.
The ongoing Epstein scandal has somewhat overshadowed the reality that Republicans have financed tax cuts for the wealthy at the expense of healthcare for the most vulnerable.
