President Joe Biden’s residence in Delaware has long been a gathering spot for various guests, and in light of recent events regarding classified documents found there, Republican lawmakers are eagerly seeking to quantify just who has stepped foot into this pivotal location.

On a recent Sunday, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) sent a request letter to the Biden administration, urging the release of visitor logs from the start of Biden’s presidency. In a swift response, the administration stated that it does not maintain visitor logs for the president’s personal residence.

Despite the absence of a comprehensive log, public records suggest that Biden’s home has been frequented by numerous individuals in recent years. For instance, an October 2021 White House press release confirmed a meeting at Biden’s home with Senators Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), focusing on the president’s ongoing political strategy.

In his correspondence, Comer also hinted at evidence indicating that Hunter Biden, the president’s son, had listed his father’s Wilmington address on his driver’s license, a practice that continued until as recently as 2018.

Revisiting the 2020 Campaign

Biden’s Wilmington home played a crucial role during his 2020 presidential campaign as a site for numerous strategic meetings.

Journalists Amie Parnes and Jonathan Allen, in their 2021 book “Lucky: How Joe Biden Barely Won the Presidency,” document several campaign-related gatherings held at Biden’s residence. One excerpt recounts a January 2019 meeting with Biden’s advisors, showcasing the informal setting of political strategy meetings.

Another notable meeting mentioned from March 12, 2020, involved Biden’s debate prep team, which consisted of his sister, Valerie Owens Biden, and press aide Elizabeth Alexander, among others. This group also included key figures such as current White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain and Deputy Chief of Staff Jen O’Malley Dillon, emphasizing the importance of Biden’s home as a hub of political activity.

Adding to the narrative, Bob Bauer, former White House counsel under Obama, was also present for crucial debate preparations that occurred in Biden’s basement, a testament to the blend of personal and political spaces in the Biden campaign narrative.

In “The Fight of His Life: Inside Joe Biden’s White House,” author Chris Whipple illustrates a moment on January 6, 2021, when Biden was in his library watching news of the Capitol riots, anchoring his home further into the timeline of significant national events.

Comer’s Continued Push for Clarity

Although the Biden administration claims not to log visitors at the personal residence, Comer’s oversight committee is resolute in its quest for transparency regarding who has accessed the property.

“President Biden promised a historically transparent administration, yet he falls short in critical moments,” tweeted the official GOP House Oversight Committee account. “The American public has a right to know who accessed these classified materials; we will persist until we get answers.”
