A Florida dentist, dubbed “entitled,” who is implicated in orchestrating the murder of his former brother-in-law, expressed his frustration toward jail staff for allegedly injuring his toe—just days before his mother drew reprimands for reacting in court.

Charlie Adelson accused personnel at the Leon County Jail of inadvertently causing him harm by shutting a door on his foot while he awaited his medication on Aug. 31.

“That was really f–king stupid,” Adelson articulated during a heated exchange captured on body camera footage from the podcast “Lies and Alibis.” “Really stupid. You opened the hatch; I was standing here barefoot, and you slammed the door on my toe.”

The 47-year-old, serving a life sentence for involvement in Dan Markel’s 2014 murder, was detained in the Leon County Jail while his mother, Donna Adelson, was on trial for murder, in case he was called to testify.

Adelson became confrontational with the jail staff, requesting to speak with a supervisor about the incident.

“Bring your lieutenant over. I’ll tell him how f–king stupid you are,” he threatened. “You don’t know what stupid is? You’re f–king stupid.”

He demanded, “Give me my medicine and open the hatch like a normal person. Like someone with a brain,” while continuously insisting that the hatch was forced open against him.

The calm nurse clarified the event to her superior while Adelson remained in his cell.

“We arrived at this cell to distribute medication. He was positioned at the door. I unlocked it to let it open, and he claimed I ran over his toe,” she recounted, expressing her wish for him to receive medical evaluation while voicing her frustrations about his demeanor.

“I’ve been recording; he cursed at me and called me stupid,” she noted. “He’s going to tell you how stupid I am.”

Adelson continued to vent his frustrations at the lieutenant, asserting it was common knowledge to use the hatch for passing items instead of opening the door directly.

He stated his toe wasn’t broken but was “f–ked up” from the mishap.

The self-proclaimed victim hobbled out of his cell, requesting his medication first, before receiving medical attention for his toe.

Legal analysts criticized Adelson’s sense of entitlement, highlighting how his previous lifestyle of privilege likely influenced his behavior post-arrest and conviction.

“What we witnessed was the behavior of an entitled, privileged brat,” remarked criminal law attorney Melba Pearson in an interview with CourtTV.

“This behavior doesn’t surprise me; he acts as if he’s still living a life of luxury. However, he needs to realize he’s in a different setting now and will not receive any special treatment. His wealth means nothing here; he must learn respect and humility. He will learn, one way or another,” she added.

Adelson was found guilty in December 2023 of first-degree murder, conspiracy, and solicitation related to the murder of Dan Markel, who was a Florida State University law professor and father to Adelson’s two nephews.

Markel and Adelson’s sister were embroiled in a contentious divorce and child custody dispute at the time of his murder.

Adelson and his then-girlfriend, Katherine Magbanua, conspired with two hitmen—Sigfredo Garcia and Luis Rivera—to execute the murder.

Members of the notorious Latin Kings gang, Rivera and Garcia, tailed Markel on the morning of July 18, 2014, before following him home and fatally shooting him.

Garcia, who was identified as the shooter, was sentenced to life in prison for his role in the killing.

Weeks later, Donna Adelson was convicted as the mastermind behind her ex-son-in-law’s murder. A judge reprimanded her for her emotional reaction in court after being found guilty and sentenced to life.

After her conviction, she shouted, “Oh my God,” which elicited a stern response from the judge as her sobs filled the courtroom.
